Voting Smoting

Voting early, is the greatest thing! My mom and I went to vote last night and we had no line, it was perfect! No waiting in long lines on election day! There was however a very long line when we were leaving, but I can only imagine what it will be like on election day.

Even though I have voted, I will still probably watch Obama's thing on TV tonight and McCain on Larry King Live, just because it is so interesting! Voting early lasts until Friday October 31, so you should do it or at least plan to vote on election day Nov. 4! Go to http://www.leaveyourprint.com/ for information on where you can vote early (well at least for Utah)! It is exciting to see people interested in this campaign, I think both presidential candidates have ignited interest in this race that has been missing for sometime. Even if some of it is negative, like hating one candidate or one candidate's running mate, at least people are getting involved and interested. We need to be informed and make our voices heard!

Why vote?

"Why vote? First and foremost, voting is a civil right, hard-won for women, African Americans, and other citizens, and the foundation of our democracy. Secondly, millions of people around the world have no say in who governs them, so don't squander your own power. And thirdly, every single vote really does count."

-even though that was from an article in 2004, I thought it was well put!

One Vote DOES Make a Difference!

If you’ve ever wondered if your vote really does matter, check out these facts from some extremely close elections.

1800 – ONE VOTE in the electoral college made Thomas Jefferson President over Aaron Burr.
1845 – ONE VOTE brought Texas into the Union.
1847 – ONE VOTE elected Whig candidate George G. Dunn over Democratic candidate David M. Dobson for the U.S. House of Representatives in Indiana.
1948 – 87 VOTES elected Lyndon B. Johnson to the Senate.
1867 – ONE VOTE decided on the purchase of Alaskan territory.
1868 – ONE VOTE prevented President Andrew Johnson from being impeached.
1955 – ONE VOTE elected the mayor of Huron, Ohio.
1916 – ONE VOTE in each California precinct re-elected Woodrow Wilson to the Presidency over Charles E. Hughes.
1960 – ONE VOTE per precinct made John F. Kennedy the President over contender Richard Nixon.
1962 – ONE VOTE per precinct determined the winners for Governor in the states of Maine, Rhode Island, and North Dakota.
1977 – ONE VOTE determined in a recount, decided that Robert Emond won the seat for Vermont State Representative over Sydney Nixon.
1984 – ONE VOTE elected a Monroe County, Florida commissioner.
1999 – ONE VOTE per precinct elected Leslie Byrne to the Virginia Senate.
2000 – 237 VOTES in Florida resulted in the election of George W. Bush to the Presidency.
2002 – 5 VOTES elected Dan Sparks to the Minnesota State Senate.
2004 – 129 VOTES declared Christine Gregoire the Governor of Washington in a third and final hand recount.

Make your voice heard and get out there and vote, there is no excuse!

12 Days!

So there are 12 days to the wedding! It is quite crazy but great!!!

I had my family bridal shower on Saturday the my mom (and MOH) threw for me at my grandma's house. It was quite a lot of fun and I got some very interesting items. The theme was "As Seen on TV" so I got a ton of fun gadgets that you see on TV but never buy. I have always been Leary that stuff like that will not work, but ever since the Ped-Egg I will try anything. What is the Ped-Egg you ask? It is even better than a pedicure at a salon that you pay at least $30.00. It is this little kind of egg shaped grater type thing that you rub over your feet and it gets your feet so soft and smooth it is just great and if you are lucky you can find the pink version and help support finding the cure for breast cancer. If you haven't used one you should go to your local Target or Walgreen's and check it out, for like $10 you can get great feet!

I do have one hilarious story from the bridal shower. So since it was the "As Seen on TV" theme, my cousin Linda thought they were going to have to present the gifts to me as a commercial (which is what my mom wanted to do) and so she came prepared. I had a large garbage can in front of me with a lid and when I opened it, there was a fish in there. At first, I was thinking what is that, fake? Then the smell hit me... then I said "Are you kidding me?" Then Linda came frolicking over to me saying, "Stinky odor, 'Oust' it out" and sprayed me and the can down with yummy smelling 'Oust' it was by far the most creative gift I received and something I will never forget. I am just glad she took care of the fish for me so I wouldn't have to touch it or anything!

Anyway that is all I have for now, I am getting super excited for the wedding and things are finishing up nicely! Have a good day!

To be or not to be a Sea Horse!

So we are having kids in to trick-or-treat for Halloween in our office. The other admin girls are planning to dress up and it might be my last day in the office as an unmarried woman... so I need to go out with a bang. I love sea horses. Stephen and I thought about getting some however after some research I found they are very high maintenance creatures and I would probably end up accidentally killing them. Anyway I found this costume and I can't decide if I should get it or not. It is a little more expensive than I wanted to go and I don't know how well I could walk around in it. I would have to wear a shirt underneath it so it would be appropriate enough at work... but I almost feel like it is a calling and I found it for a reason so I need to get it. Anyway, this will be the tough decision to ponder today! :)

19 Days and McCain!

Omg, only 19 days left. That is quite exciting. I think we have most things under control and ready to go so it shouldn't be too stressful coming up. I just can't believe how fast all of this has gone. I started talking to people at work about getting my name updated in all of their systems, it gives me butterflies doing that stuff! :) We have been quite slow at work lately so it has been kind of hard to focus on anything else but fun planning stuff!

On a completely unrelated note, I found an article about Heidi Montag (The Hills, see picture from last post "durh") that she is backing John McCain and then McCain backed her and said he loves her show. I am not a supporter of McCain but I would think that McCain should be embarrassed that Heidi is backing him, I mean if it was Lauren that would be a different story! I just do not like Heidi at all she is such an airhead and just bothers me (really concrete reasons not to like a person, but she has no validity to her, she sounds an acts like and idiot, thus making her one). Anyway, I love how she is a wanna be celebrity and tries to get her name out there as much as possible. There was a little thing written about her in one of Stephen's sports magazines that was saying they bet that she takes out the trash like 20 times a day hoping that someone is able to get a picture of her to feature her in a magazine for "Stars... they are just like us!" She pulls all these publicity stunts and wants to be more famous than she is, I guess if she just let her music speak for itself she would be so famous she couldn't even stand it (sarcasm was inserted... worst song/music video I have ever seen) anyway I think that John McCain should not have responded to her announcing she was backing him, maybe he was trying to get in with the young and maybe even female folk, but Heidi is not the way to get my vote, John!

Here is the article:

Anyway back to reality!

Durh!

hahaha, so it is no secret that I love the Hills on MTV. It is a guilty pleasure of mine and Stephen really does love me because he will sit through it with me every week. Well we were just watching the show and happened to pause it and capture a great view of Heidi! I hope this helps you through the week, I know it will for me!

Go team Whitney! That is who I support this week, she is by far the most normal one!!!

First Snowfall!!

I love the first time it snows for the season! It is so pretty and not usually ever enough to stick and cause problems on the roads. After the first snowfall, it starts to come much more frequently and the roads suck, I have a really hard time appreciating it and seeing it for all of it's beauty so I try to appreciate the first time of the season so there can be some joy from the winter weather! This year it came a lot earlier than I can ever remember. It has all melted already down here in the valley, but I got some good pictures from yesterday morning. The sky is so white, you can't even see the mountains that would take up that whole back drop of the first picture! The cold weather is still here though so maybe there will be some more to come soon.

REAL Salt Lake!

So looking at the last post I have to say I am marrying the best guy! I am glad we feel the same way about each other we are both lucky.

Anyway, tonight was the first game at the Rio Tinto stadium for the Real Salt Lake. It was a fun time with Stephen's friends and the stadium was pretty awesome.

Here are some pictures!

I don't really have to much else to update on things are going well for both of us and the wedding plans are moving right along... yesterday marked one month to the big day! Pretty exciting stuff. Oh I got my bridal pictures done last Saturday, like the first time it rains this fall is on that day. It was cold and gross, it made for great pictures but my dress got so dirty. I guess thank heavens for dry cleaners. I wish I could post pictures because I have to admit I look pretty hot all done up and in my dress but I don't want to risk Stephen seeing anything until the big day!

Well that is all I have right now!
